The number of Uzbek citizens vaccinated against coronavirus is not enough to talk about the impact of vaccination on the epidemiological situation in the country, said Nurmat Otabekov, deputy head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare Service.
According to him, at the moment only a small part of the population has been vaccinated, and most of them have only received the first dose. Today it is more than 400 thousand people.
"Full-fledged immunity is not formed after a single vaccination. From May 1, many of them will receive a second dose, " he said.
AstraZeneca Covishield is an Indian analog and ZF-UZ-VAC2001, a Chinese-Uzbek drug, is used in Uzbekistan. The first vaccine consists of two doses, the second — of three. According to Otabekov, the formation of high immunity can be seen in one and a half to two months after the last vaccination.
The first batch of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine has arrived in the country today. Half of its cost was financed by a Russian businessman of Uzbek origin, Alisher Usmanov.
The vaccination campaign in Uzbekistan started on April 1. According to the Ministry of Health on April 22, during this time, 510,329 people have already been vaccinated. By the end of June, the government plans to vaccinate about four million citizens, and by the end of the year, this figure should grow to seven million, which will account for approximately 20 percent of Uzbek citizens.
At the same time, 345 people were diagnosed with coronavirus infection during the day, increasing the total number of infected people to 88,280 cases. Since its introduction in Uzbekistan, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 641 people.
